The ECDL is designed specifically for students
who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing indicating
sufficient Microsoft Office Skills for any office based application.
This course blends the key concepts of computing, and their
practical applications and use in the workplace to create
professionals with a well rounded set of IT skills.

modules |
| The ECDL consists of seven modules,
each of which covers an aspect of Office and Windows.
Each module has a test associated with it, which must
be passed before an ECDL certificate is awarded.
The modules are:

Basic Concepts of IT - comprising
basic computer architecture, storage devices, software
types & components, information networks, computers
in everyday life, security, copyright and law.

Using the computer and managing files - comprising computer systems overview, desktop
configuration, windows explorer, text editing applications,
basic configuration settings, hardware and software
installation, protecting files and securing computers.

Word Processing - comprising
basic application information, editing and formatting
text, structuring documents, working with borders,
tables and graphics, printing and publishing.

Spreadsheets - comprising basic
concepts, editing and formatting data, using formulas,
charts and functions, importing objects and distributing
worksheets.

Databases - comprising database
concepts, setting up a database, working with tables
and forms, sorting records, working with queries,
printing and creating relationships.

Presentations - comprising introduction
to PowerPoint, creating and formatting slides, preparing
presentations, working with charts and graphics,
importing data and publishing presentations.

Electronic Communications - including
introduction to the Internet and www, browsing and
searching the web, saving and printing web contents,
using the web based e-mail services, using the Microsoft
outlook, good practices with e-mail and using outlook
for managing time.

| Certification |
| The ECDL certificate is awarded by
British Computer Society (BCS) on behalf of ECDL. This
certificate is internationally recognised and greatly
enhances career prospects. |

You don't need any previous knowledge to start this
course. |

| Duration |
6 months 20 hours of organised study at the
college per week.
Classes will vary and will include class-based instruction,
self-study using computer assisted learning strategies,
writing assessments and practical work on the computers.
Study sessions are held in the morning (10am to 2pm) or in the afternoon (2pm to 6pm). |
